Notes

My quick rating - 3.7/10. I would like to thank Sonny Mahal for providing me a screener for this flick. As I explained to him, I won't be biased in my reviews for that reason. Plus any movie that has Tom Sizemore has already started in a favorable opinion from me. And leading off with a joke about his fame is pretty funny. I like to see a movie that takes the "splitting up" to the extreme. Not only do these plane crash survivors branch off into groups to search the island but they also then split up further down to one person searching. Makes the killing much easier. And when the island happens to be inhabited by a group of flesh-eating creatures, being simple targets is a bad idea. Unfortunately, the monsters here are really poor-looking. I am not referring to budget limitations at all, this is to be expected but I am saying this for directing reasons. At times the creatures move around like monkeys skipping around dragging their knuckles then moments later they are standing upright and boxing with the clueless survivors. Director Adam Werth should have picked a lane for the costumed ghouls to stick with at how they are portrayed or had the continuity advisor point out they looked silly when acting far too "human." But their appearance does have a sort of drive-in 50s camp look to them so I let that slide. The cast minus the two recognizable faces of Sizemore and Noel Gugliemi delivers some bad acting that again may have been meant for the campy feel. You won't need to worry about the acting out of the two vets (RIP Mr. Sizemore) since they don't grace us with much screen time. The scenery works wherever they filmed so you do have something nice to look at. Some of the unnatural lighting was way too obvious in its implementation which I found distracting. As a whole this just reminds me of the type of flick that pops on late at night and grabs your attention just enough to actually sit and watch. It is silly looking at times but it managed to do just enough to make me curious in how it played out and the slight nod to Dr. Moreau made it somewhat worth it. It surely won't be one of your go-to flix to recommend to friends but still entertaining enough to check out if you run across it. I also give credit to Mr. Mahal and the other writers for doing something that so few movies will ever do and to find out what that is, you will have to watch since you know my policy on spoilers. Side note: Action/Adventure isn't really the right genre to drop this in since there are flesh-eating creatures so I would have to go with horror and maybe action or comedy to pair it with, depending on how the makers here felt their direction intended.
