Notes

My quick rating - 5,7/10. New horror flick so want to check it out right away since that is what I do. This one is right on that line between horror and thriller. Set against the backdrop of a vicious storm, this film follows two criminal brothers, one who is critically wounded, on the run who seek refuge in a remote and eerie farmhouse. What starts as a simple attempt to find shelter quickly descends into a nerve-wracking tale of dark secrets and heightened suspense. The strength of this flick lies in its well crafted plot and excellent performances by the cast. The tightly written script keeps you on the edge of your seat as unexpected twists and turns unfold. While some plot revelations may not entirely surprise seasoned thriller enthusiasts, the film compensates with its relentless pacing and atmosphere of constant dread. The cast brings their A-game to the screen, led by Joely Richardson as Mama, adding depth and authenticity to their characters. As the criminal brothers, Neil Linpow and Cameron Jack convincingly portray their characters' sinister nature, making them compelling and unpredictable antagonists. On the other hand, the resident family members draw empathy and intrigue as the film slowly peels back the layers of their mysterious past. Throughout the movie, a sense of unease lingers, amplified by the claustrophobic setting of the isolated farmhouse and the relentless storm raging outside. The tension gradually intensifies as the characters' true intentions come to light, and an air of mistrust pervades the lodge. It's a testament to director Matthias Hoene using his skill to keep the suspense is so effectively maintained, while keeping audiences invested and on edge throughout. In many ways, this flick evokes a Hitchcockian feel. The master of suspense himself would be proud of this flix ability to keep viewers guessing and questioning the motives of every character. The interplay of trust and deceit, coupled with the uncertainty of who will survive the night, gives the movie a classic psychological thriller vibe. While the film doesn't shy away from some familiar thriller tropes, it compensates with its skilled execution and absorbing storytelling. At times, it might feel like you're treading familiar ground, but the movie manages to put its unique stamp on the genre, creating an experience that is both familiar and fresh. In conclusion, Little Bone Lodge is a compelling and engaging thriller that delivers a nail-biting experience. With a well-crafted script, strong performances, and a pervasive sense of unease, the movie succeeds in keeping you on the edge of your seat until the very end. If you're a fan of tense, suspenseful films with a touch of classic Hitchcock, this one is not to be missed.
