My quick rating - 3,7/10. "Solver" is a film that attempts to combine elements of a mystery thriller and an escape room adventure, but unfortunately falls short in several key areas. While it presents an intriguing premise with the disappearance of Luke's grandfather and the subsequent unraveling of clues and puzzles, the execution leaves much to be desired. One of the major drawbacks is the subpar acting. The performances from the cast, especially John Ruby portraying Luke, lacked depth and fail to get my attention. The lackluster delivery of dialogue and the absence of believable emotions make it challenging to connect with any of the characters and invest in their journey. The escape room aspect of the film, which should have provided excitement and tension, turns out to be disappointingly tame. The puzzles and challenges that Luke and his companion Alex (Kerry Knuppe) encounter throughout the story are predictable and lack the ingenuity and complexity needed to truly captivate the audience. Everytime they want to give up, one of them predictably finds another puzzle. As a result, the film fails to generate the necessary sense of urgency and thrill that should accompany such a concept. While the plot initially holds promise, it becomes increasingly convoluted and fails to deliver a satisfying payoff. The progression of the mystery lacks cohesion, leaving you perplexed rather than intrigued. All of that ends up leading you to a completely laughable outcome as the film attempts to introduce a dark secret, but the revelation falls flat, lacking the impact and shock value that could have redeemed the narrative. Overall it left a very forgettable impression and is unlikely to become an entry in the mystery thriller genre that you want to bother with.
