Notes

My quick rating - 4.3/10. I don't think I have seen a movie that continually references a type of music and then almost throughout it doesn't play said kind. The completely unlikable Willie (Jonah Ray) constantly references his "prog rock" yet nearly everything we hear is far more like indie electronica or something of that sort. Not sure who is to blame for having no idea what progressive rock is but they are way off the target. At least until the end when they finally get in the ballpark. Speaking of unlikable, that is another problem with this flick, nearly all the characters are just that, unlikable, making it impossible to care who lives or dies. Willie is a struggling prog-rock musician who finds himself in a living nightmare when he accidentally kills Vlad, the neighbor from hell. Vlad’s disembodied corpse delights in tormenting William, sending him further into madness and impending doom. The writing is so inconsistent in where the flick wants to go. Immediate shifts in trying to be serious just make you shake your head wondering why. It was just a mess all over the board that hid behind some creative effects and gore to keep your attention. The acting is overly exaggerated, especially by the lead and the neighbor, Vlad, who is nearly impossible to understand. Speaking of hard-to-understand, the fact that Vlad is played by Alex Winter didn't even hit me until I was writing this. So the makeup job is damn good. I did enjoy the premise of the flick and just wish it could've done a better job of staying on target. And anytime Thomas Lennon from Reno 911 fame pops up in a comedy, I'll pay a little more attention even if he was mostly wasted here. This one falls into the category of most Shudder originals, it isn't horrible but still nothing great. I am sure some people will think it is hilarious from top to bottom, and I am just not one of them.
