My quick rating - 4.6/10. M.C. Huff surprises with a standout performance as the enigmatic and unpredictable "crazy chick,". I wasn't expecting the performances to be any good in this throwback slasher but she nailed her part and made the entire trip worth it. Mattie (Jenna Z. Alvarez) and her friends go on a weekend trip to the woods to plan Mattie's wedding, settled near the camp of Mr. Rogers (Tom Kiesche), and with no phone signal, their trip quickly turns into a nightmare when they start dying and someone has a secret. Director Robyn August and writer Kiesche knew exactly where they were going with this one and didn't stray off that path. This flick had a very late 80s feel to it and delivers a nostalgic throwback to classic slasher films with the obligatory twist that keeps you intrigued. The flick stays true to the genre while injecting enough humor into the tension to keep you entertained. The late 80s vibe adds to the film's charm, evoking a sense of nostalgia for fans of classic slasher flicks. One notable aspect is its relatively low body count, which may disappoint some viewers expecting a higher level of gore and mayhem. However, this choice allows for a more focused exploration of the characters and their motivations, adding depth to the overall story. Take your pick on if that is a good or a bad thing. I thought it was a satisfying entry into the slasher genre, offering some thrills, chills, and surprises along the way. It could've used some fine-tuning with their characters and possibly embraced the slasher vibe a bit more. While it may not break new ground, it's a moderate success and can be added to any horror fan's watchlist.
