My quick rating - 5.7/10. When the plots of reclusive author Elly Conway's fictional espionage novels begin to mirror the covert actions of a real-life spy organization, quiet evenings at home become a thing of the past. Bryce Dallas Howard plays her role well as this damsel in distress who envisions her spies a bit more "hunky." Accompanied by her cat Alfie and Aiden (Sam Rockwell), a cat-allergic spy who doesn't fit that role, Elly races across the world to stay one step ahead of the killers as the line between Conway's fictional world and her real one begins to blur. For being a mystery that is trying desperately to fool you, they sure didn't take me by surprise. Even though it is all quite fun to view, the actual reveals did nothing for me. If you don't see it coming, I am sure you'll have a bit more fun with it. Or you may even get confused if you don't pay attention. All scenarios aside, I still found this flick to be a fun little ride that isn't going to be much more than a decent night's distraction. The cast, as you can see, is stacked with stars from top to bottom and they all perform to their strengths. In other words, John Cena isn't attempting to bring the waterworks. Bryan Cranston plays an excellent villain as well while Samuel L. Jackson may not have even dropped an F-bomb. If he did, I didn't notice so surely not the usual rant lol. The action is taken straight out of the Fast and Furious universe so don't expect anything less than awe-inspiring sequences that do NOT adhere to the laws of physics. The scenes where Elly's imagination takes over to showcase the Argylle that she pictures in her head are wonderfully hammed up by Henry Cavill adding some good comedy moments in there. Director Matthew Vaughn is not only paying homage to some great mystery flix but also spoofing them at the same time. If you look at his credits, you can see he has earned the right to do both. Some excellent films on that man's resume. I think you'll come out of this way saying "Man, that was so dumb and I enjoyed it." At least, that is how I felt.
