Notes

My quick rating - 4.4/10. I just finished watching this show and I have to say, huge disappointment. Everything that was good about the Sonic movies and other shows is completely missed. This mini-series was by far the Wade Whipple (Adam Pally) show featuring special guest Knuckles. There is so much cringe going on in this show so I will point out the good first. The action scenes with Knuckles, who is voiced by the talented Idris Elba, Look fantastic. Excellent CGI effects to make these parts seamless with the live world around the Echidna warrior. It is also quite nice for a show to be this kid-friendly and leave all the death behind. Even with that caveat of wholesomeness, I still think kids will be pissed with this one since no one is watching this show to find out how Wade becomes a warrior and that is what this whole series is about. Side note, if you don't have Warrior by Scandal in your head, you sure will after 6 episodes of this. So back to our story, Knuckles the Echidna teaches deputy Wade Whipple the techniques of the Echidna warrior. This is all based around Wade getting booted off his bowling team and replaced by a child. But the plot thickens since the ultimate goal is beating his father in the bowling championship. And this is where the cringe comes in, every cliche is thrown your way, each predictable outcome is written and for some unknown reason, a song and dance episode is injected into our eyeballs to induce more pain than the constant bickering of Wade and his sister Wanda (Edi Patterson). I'll again point out a positive, their mother played by Stockard Channing was a delight. But she cannot save the foolish scenes she is written into. And Cary Elwes was also a treat playing Pistol Pete (Wades Dad) but his character is used sparingly. The overall cast is the only other highlight to this show taking a backseat to nearly every scene that features Knuckles. I have to say this was a huge miss, especially after the overly entertaining fun that the overachieving Sonic films have presented.
