My quick rating - 6.0/10. Netflix flexes its budget once again with this movie, a lighthearted, action-packed spy comedy directed by Seth Gordon (The Night Agent). While the film is nowhere near groundbreaking, it delivers enough fast-paced fun, humor, and over-the-top set pieces to keep audiences entertained. Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz make a solid return to the screen, playing former CIA agents forced back into the game after their peaceful cover is blown. Their chemistry is enjoyable, and while the action sequences push the limits of believability—seriously, they'd be dead ten times over in real life—the film doesn't take itself too seriously. The humor helps smooth over the absurdity, making it a decent popcorn flick.
The supporting cast adds extra charm, with Glenn Close as the sharp-witted mother figure and Jamie Demetriou hamming it up as a bumbling English agent. McKenna Roberts also stands out among the younger cast, proving she can hold her own in the chaos. The action scenes are well-choreographed, and while the plot remains extremely simple, the film strikes a good balance between comedy and spectacle.
Ultimately, Back in Action is exactly what it sets out to be: an easygoing, watch-and-forget spy romp that won’t be winning awards—but might just be setting itself up for a sequel.
