Notes

My quick rating - 5,5/10. I haven't watched or owned this one in years so time for a refresher. The setup is a plane crashing on some remote island and in out-of-character fashion, instead of some cheesy prop to show the plane's descent to doom, it is all done dark screen and via audio. But in typical Troma style, the cast of characters is a variety of weirdos that can overact with the best of them. Well, the island seems to be inhabited by mercenaries from all over the globe intent on infiltrating America and then taking over the world. And what is quite odd is when the bullets start flying, the gunplay is FAR better than a lot of what you see currently on STV action flix. Knowing Troma as I do it is most likely because real guns are being fired and filmed, and as you can tell by the editing, never pointing at each other in the slightest. Still, a fun flick to check out that takes a slightly different direction than most of their flix. The entire terrorist plot is so clearly a massive jab at politics globally and doesn't shy away from making fun of each it decides to include. This satirical look at the war movies of the time, and I am sure a big target was Rambo and the countless rip-offs that were littering the theaters in the mid-80s, was just a fun time for fans of low-budget flix. Not once does the movie take itself seriously nor expect the viewers to leave the theater raving but in the end you'll most likely agree it is an entertaining 91 minutes. You get an assortment of terrorists such as a pig-snouted redneck, completely stereotyped Russians from all the flix of the time, Arabs, a ninja, and even two Siamese twin leaders. Each kill is taken entirely to the extreme with all the action taking place beyond anything remotely close to plausible. Just an all-around good time to be had and another feather in the cap from the genius of Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz.
