Park Hee-bong is the loving father of three children. They live on the bank of Seoul's Han River, where Park runs a small snackbar. His daughter, Hyun-seo, is the favorite of her father and her brothers. Her oldest brother is immature and selfish, and her middle brother is a competitive athlete. But when a strange mutant invades the river and starts killing people, the whole area is concerned. And when Hyun-seo is taken, the three men are in totally disbelief. They soon realize Hyun-seo is still alive and they must work together to save her. But will they find her in time?

My quick rating - 7,6/10. Ok, this needs to be said. Bong Joon Ho is amazing. I knew this already, but now going back to other works of his really drives this home. How to take an atypical monster movie, and not only take the monster out of the equation of the focus of the story, but almost make you forget it is even still there hunting. The scenes are meticulously thought out and shot to perfection. Don't mind the effects, they have little to do with it (which is fine for 2006 standards anyway). But the killer mutated monster is just the cover story to tell a tale of family importance and political cover up that really is what this is all about (very timely, is the coronavirus what this movie foreshadowed right now?). I won't go more into the conspiracy part, you should just see it to go. "Yep, I can see the government doing that". Too good to be missed. Oh, and I think this movie may have something to do with Cloverfield ever being made, but that is just me.
