My quick rating - 5,4/10. I am not going to waiver on my rating of this movie. At the time of the slasher films (which the sequels to this became) Sleepaway Camp really is not really that. Strangely if you pay attention to this movie, it is much more than just a horror flick. It is quite amusing at times and I really hope I didn't wear my shorts at my collarbone when I went to sleepover camp. For those who did live in the times of attending these will probably get much more from the humor aspect from that part. Beyond that though is a story that includes a lot of hot topics about abnormal psychology and transexuality. Unfortunately this movie is quite tame in how it goes about the story so if you are looking for a female Jason like slaughterfest, this movie is not for you. Instead you do get a story that made you think through it, and though at the time it was quite controversial, now it doesn't really seem so much so. But if you can take into consideration what the movie was up against, and when it was made (1983) you may have a bit more respect for it.
