My quick rating - 5,9/10. One of the rare times that a sequel outshines the first. This really is more thriller than horror, but the aspects of how a modern day horror element without including a supernatural element are what makes this one a bit better. The story follows (on one persons laptop screen) a young adult who finds a laptop at an Internet cafe, and upon investigating it, finds a gigantic hidden folder with a bunch of videos in it. Along for the ride through this discovery are his online buddies on a game night. But their game gets interwoven into an actual game of life and death. This movie is not relying on the first movie for a single thing minus the way it is presented, but I suppose if they just called it "Dark Web" then people would've been pissed comparing it to "Unfriended" so it was a must. I think with how we are connected all the time, to everything makes this seem very plausible in how it plays out. It might even scare you into thinking, "it could happen." All the people acting in this seem very real, like your actual buddies which is a good thing, and the editing of all the clips and bopping around from window to window are flawless in presentation. If it wasn't done right, then it never would've worked as a story of the main characters being drawn into someone elses idea of a game night. I'll stay vague as always so not to ruin it completely, but overall this was a good watch that kept my attention. All the violence is more suggested instead of shown which might be a slight drawback if you wanted to catch a true horror fan, but doesn't take away from the overall experience. There were a couple loose ends here and there, but put those aside, and you may be surprised at how well this one turns out. A nice and dark peek into the dark web....
