On the last day of the first manned mission to Mars, a crew member of Tantalus Base believes he has made an astounding discovery – fossilized evidence of bacterial life. Unwilling to let the relief crew claims all the glory, he disobeys orders to pack up and goes out on an unauthorized expedition to collect further samples. But a routine excavation turns to disaster when the porous ground collapses and he falls into a deep crevice and near certain death. His devastated colleagues attempt to recover his body. However, when another vanishes, they start to suspect that the life-form they have discovered is not without danger.

My quick rating - 5,8/10. To really appreciate this movie, you should be familiar with 50s scifi and mix it up with the remake of The Thing. Not close to as good as Carpenters classic but you get the point. The flick has a subtle way of not getting absorbed in the technology that looks quite impressive and serves as just background. Liev Schreiber as always shows absolutely no emotions throughout the movie, well, maybe a little at the end. Is not acting good acting? Something about his acting is just that. I am confusing myself LOL. I would hate to play poker with him. Anyway, the movie has been done before, and better and much worse. Last days on n expedition on Mars, disaster happens and when the ground collapses and a crew member falls in, the rescue brings home something along with it. You can fill in the blanks. The movie breezes by at 1.5 hours, so there is little time for wasted moments. I think if they branched out instead of playing it so safe with the borrowed elements from other flicks, they could've really had something. Instead, you get a well made retread of a familiar story. Enjoy.
