Jonathan Switcher (Andrew McCarthy) is a talented, but undiscovered artist. In order to make ends meet, he takes a job as an assistant window designer at a large department store. He is assisting Hollywood Montrose (Meshach Taylor), a flamboyant artist who is very supportive of Jonathan. One night, Jonathan is working alone when one of the mannequins comes to life. Her name is Emmy Hesire (Kim Catrall) and she is actually and ancient Egyptian princess who used magic to escape her boring life. She has been traveling through time ever since in search of a life that will make her happy. The two are instantly attracted to one another, but Emmy turns back into a mannequin when others are around. Emmy inspires Jonathan to create window designs that begin to draw in large crowds. Jonathan’s ex girlfriend, Roxie Shield (Carole Davis) works for the rival department store and sets out on a quest to steal Jonathan and his muse for her company. Jonathan has to save the day and find a way to get Emmy to stay with him permanently.
