This is a modern-day adaptation of “Cyrano de Bergerac”. C.D. “Charlie” Bales (Steve Martin) is the local fire chief in a small town. He is very smart, educated and a good person. He has unfortunately been blessed with an extremely long nose. One day, astronomer Roxanne Kowalski (Daryl Hannah) moves to town. She is CD’s dream girl, beautiful and sweet. The two become friends right away, but he is too intimidated to make a move. CD gets a new fire-recruit from the big city, Chris McConnell (Rick Rossovich). Chris, while being a great fireman, is not very bright. Nevertheless, he finds himself drawn to Roxanne and she to him. Knowing that Roxanne is out of his league, he asks CD for help. Using CD’s personality and words, Chris courts Roxanne. Soon, it is clear that it is CD’s personality Roxanne loves, but Chris’ looks.
