As a baby, Moses (Val Kilmer) is sent down a river to save him from the Pharoah's (Patrick Stewart) order to drown all male Hebrew babies. He is fatefully found by the Queen (Helen Mirren) and grows up a brother to Ramses (Ralph Fiennes). Years later, when Ramses inherits the throne and becomes the most powerful empire on earth, his job is to carry on the slavery and oppression of the Hebrew people. Moses finds himself being called by God and leaves Egypt. On his journey, he meets Jehtro (Danny Glover), a high priest who tells him of the truth of his heritage. He also marries Jethro's daughter, Tzporah (Michelle Pheiffer) before returning to Egypt to convince Ramses to let his people go.
