Lamont Cranston (Alec Baldwin) was an evil warlord in pre WWII China. One day, a Zen master takes Lamont under his wing and teaches him that because he has darkness in his heart, he will be able to fight it in other people. He teaches Lamont the magic of “clouding” people minds, giving him practical invisibility. Lamont then returns to his home of New York City to fight criminals like he used to be, under the guise of “The Shadow”. One day, a descendant of Genghis Khan, Shiwan Khan (John Lone), comes to town. He abducts a nuclear scientist who builds an atomic bomb for him to use to destroy the city. The scientist’s daughter, Margo Lane (Penelope Ann Miller), joins Lamont as he sets out to defeat Khan and save the city.
