A dazed and traumatized young girl is found wandering the desert near White Sands, New Mexico. The only thing she can say is "Them!" An investigation reveals that her family was killed by giant ants. Dr. Medford (Edmund Gwen) and his daughter, Dr. Pat Medford (Joan Weldon) figure it out and aid the police in dealing with the ants. The ants mutated into giants because they were exposed to atomic radiation during test of the atom bomb in that area. The Medfords help policeman Ben Peterson (James Whitmore) fight the ants, including a dramatic battle in the Los Angeles sewer system.
