Those Graboids are back and threatening an oil refinery in Mexico. Earl Bassett (Fred Ward), who had once killed four of the monstrous underground worms, is called in and offered fifty thousand dollars for each of the carnivorous worms he kills. He, along with admirer Grady Hoover (Christopher Gartin) and geologist Kate Reilly (Helen Shaver), begin to trick the Graboids into swallowing bombs. They realize there are more Graboids than they can handle, so Earl calls in his survivalist friend Burt Gummer (Michael Gross), who brings plenty of weaponry to the party. Soon they find a dead, hollow Graboid that had apparently given birth to some kind of mutated creature- a human-sized, two-legged offspring called a Shrieker, capable of chasing its prey on land by sensing heat. The crew is now in more danger than they ever imagined.
