Plot

William, Mary and Alice arrive to spend the autumn half-term break at Golden House and find the place full of discord. Phoebe and Jack are quarrelling, the animals are fighting one another in the valley and, worst of all, Stephen Tyler, their Magician friend, is near death. The time for the final great battle is at hand when the three children make the terrible mistake of catapulting Morden, the magician’s evil assistant, into their time. With every force—from Morden’s army to the local hunt—ranged against them, how can they hope to complete the Great Task?
