Harper Stewart (Taye Diggs), who is avoiding a commitment with his girlfriend Robin (Sanaa Lathan), is in New York for the weekend to be the best man at the wedding of his friend Lance Sullivan (Morris Chestnut) with Mia Morgan (Monica Calhoun). There, he meets up with old college friends, Julian Murch (Harold Perrineau) and Quentin (Terrence Howard), who can’t wait to read his first novel; his big break into the mainstream. Jordan Armstrong (Nia Long), a TV producer and the bridesmaid, gets a copy of the book “Unfinished Business” in order to get an exclusive interview with Harper. When Murch and Quentin read the book, they realize the characters bear a strong resemblance to their lives and relationships. Harper fears the book will affect their friendships and the wedding at hand. Finally, when Lance gets his hands on the book, all secrets are revealed. The grand finale wedding renews the relationship between Lance and Mia, Harper and Robin and all four friends.
