Lauren Adrian (Jennifer Lopez) is a passionate newspaper reporter in Chicago. The editor assigns her the task of covering the story of mysterious murders of hundreds of young women in Juarez, Mexico. She finds out that the local authorities and even the police are after covering up the scenes of kidnapping, torturing, raping and murders of innumerable women in this factory town. She finds assistance from a local newspaper owner Alfonso Diaz (Antonio Banderas) to uncover the truth. They discover a victim in the form of a teenage factory worker Eva Jimenez (Maya Zapata) who had survived after two men raped her and left her to die. She notices the unjust labor practices and determines to raise a voice against the corrupt system. On the other hand, the authorities don’t want the story to be uncovered. This endangers the lives of Lauren and Eva as forces are working to bury the real truth with them.
