Car Wash

It’s a typical car wash with some not so typical visitors one day. These include a “Mad Bomber (Irwin Corey) who seems all too protective of a soda bottle containing a substance he seems to value. While everyone assumes the worst, he is actually protecting a urine sample to take to the doctor. Other visitors include a taxi driver (George Carlin), a lady who is quite agitated and hysterical (Lorraine Gary), and a preacher who mainly worships greenbacks, Daddy Rich (Richard Pryor). There’s even a man covered in bandages who looks much like a mummy and a resident drag queen (Antonio Fargas). Cashier Marsha (Melanie Mayron) collects the cash while the largely African-American employees like always angry and often picked on Abdullah (Bill Duke) and the rest wash and vacuum and polish the cars to a background of radio DJ’s and contemporary music. Hunts for a fare-skipping hooker and other wild sketches flesh out a plot that is more a slice of life for the Dee-Luxe Carwash employees than a real story.
