"Idlewild" is a musical/drama about a mortician named Percival Jenkins (Andre 3000) who has a passion for music. He has a friend name Rooster (Big Boi) who is not a stranger to the street life. He, along with Percival, performs at a club called Church. Percival finds a love interest named Angel Davenport (Paula Patton). Angel has always wanted to be a singer. So much so that she lied, stealing the name from the true Angel Davenport (Patti LaBelle). Her real name was Sally B Shelly. After Sunshine Ace (Faizon Love), the owner of Church, was murdered Rooster was left with club along with it's debt. Angel had to now prove herself by singing in the club. It turns out to be a success. Angel was given a deal to perform in Chicago and Percival was going with her because he did not desire to be a mortician. Percival and Angel grew closer and closer until the club business between Rooster and some thugs caused a tragedy in the death of Angel. Percival, heartbroken over her death, took off to Chicago to start a new life of music in her memory.
