The Black Stallion
Experience the magic of author Carroll Ballard's timeless tale all over again as screen star Mickey Rooney returns to the role that earned him his fourth Academy Award nomination, and follow the further adventures of the Black Stallion as based on Walter Farley's continuation of the series. Veteran horse trainer Henry Dailey (Rooney) sees boundless potential in young jockey Alec Ramsay (Richard Ian Cox), and as the two prepare to take Black Stallion to France to race in the Prix de Chantilly, an unforeseen tragedy forces Alec's French friend Nicole (Marianne Filali) to abandon the race in favor of caring for her ailing mother. As Alec and Henry prepare for the Prix de Chantilly, their situation is complicated by a series of shady businessmen and devious gamblers who are desperately attempting to fix the race.
Henry has a severe but temporary bout of angina and is certain he is finished as a trainer and that The Black will never race again, but Alec and Catherine fight his decision to quit.
Alec is home from racing to give both himself and the Black a break. Meanwhile, Catherine is fighting to be able to live her dream, becoming a jockey.
Alec's mother is blinded by chemicals. When Alec leaves the Black to go home to help his mother, the Black runs away from Henry so he can once again be with the boy he loves.
Alec is scheduled to ride The Black in an important film scene, but during the filming, the director deviously sets off fake explosives endangering both horse and boy.
A rival trainer and his underhanded lady friend use a long-distance electronic device to spook The Black at critical moments.
Alec makes friends with a boy named Mike, who suffers from downs syndrome. When an accident occurs while Alec and Mike are riding, it is up to Mike to save the day.
While Alec and Henry are picking up supplies, they find a boy trying to stowaway in their trailer. Later, they help the boy, Bobby, and his dad come to an understanding over what Bobby wants to do.
A former rodeo champion bronc rider needs Alec's help to regain the courage to ride which he lost in a riding accident.
Alec participates in a commercial commemorating the last pony express rider. While on route, Alec gets lost and comes upon a Native American named Hank who reveals the truth about who the last pony express rider really was.
Henry, who never learned to read properly, blunders into signing a racing contract which endangers The Black's ownership -- and Henry's friendship with Alec.
Alec covers up for a fifteen-year-old girl who is an alcoholic.
Henry is acting strangely, and after hearing him talking to a stranger about the Black, Alec begins to wonder is Henry is turning on him.
A rival stable, desperate to win, frames Henry for doping The Black.
Alec and Henry visit an old friend of Henry's who has a troublesome nephew named Dennis. When Dennis sets the Black off, it sets into motion a whole series of events that endanger the lives of both him and Alec's.

An underhanded paparazzo, injured after provoking The Black, persuades a judge that the horse is a menace. When Alec learns of plans to put The Black down, he runs away on The Black and a manhunt ensues.
A man claiming to be an old friend of Alec's father kidnaps Alec for a set of perfect black pearls that he claims were sent years ago to Alec's mother.
Alec realizes that his increasing height and weight may soon prevent him from being a jockey and resorts to radical measures.
The Black is kidnapped and taken to France.
After being kept in confinement for two weeks, the Black seems to have lost his spirit. Alec, refusing to give up, takes the Black to the hills, hoping that he will regain his spirit.
The daughter of the man, who willed the Black to Alec, has come to take him back to Arabia when her horses are stolen by raiders. When the Black is stolen, Alec blamed the princess, but things are not what they seem.
Catherine is engaged to a man she has only known two weeks, and there is a plot afoot to steal a million US dollars in diamonds destined for a charity/horse race benefit.
An injury to his horse prevents François, a friend of Alec's, from saving his family's farm with prize money from racing. Alec promises to race The Black instead -- but it's a steeplechase, which Alec and The Black know nothing about.

When Alec returns a very large amount of money he dramatically found in an old barn, the police question whether he has returned the full amount, and the robbers are not far behind.
Alec becomes very protective of The Black after witnessing a terrible accident resulting in the death of a horse, and he declares that The Black will never again be allowed to race.
