Notes

Story Synopsis:
Ford is Rick Deckard, a “blade runner” who prowls the steel and microchip jungle of 21st Century Los Angeles in a disturbing vision of the future. Deckard’s assignment is to stalk genetically made criminal replicants and wipe them out. Their crime: wanting to be human. Loosely based on the Phillip K. Dick novel “Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?”, the director’s cut has Ford’s voice-over dropped, allowing Vangels’ score to cut through. Unlike the Criterion LaserDisc, there are no extras.

DVD Picture:
The anamorphic format dramatically improves sharpness and detail over the previous LaserDisc edition and is superior overall when compared to Criterion’s version with warmer hues, which are fully revealed through the component video output. Chroma delay is evident, which produces a black outline around the DVD’s images. This is a beautifully rendered picture that truly enhances the awesome special effects, set designs, and cinematography. The LaserDiscs and the DVD anamorphic and letterbox ratios are framed at 2.48:1.

Soundtrack:
The DVD’s Dolby® Digital 192 kilobits per second matrix surround soundtrack does not sound near as good as the matrix PCM version. The LaserDisc PCM has a more open and spatial soundfield character. The PCM also has a richer and warmer presence.
