Story Synopsis:
Bobby Bowfinger (Martin) is a struggling producer who needs a break. So when his accountant writes a screenplay, Bobby decides he needs Hollywood’s biggest name for the starring role. The trouble is, Kit Ramsey (Murphy) doesn’t want to be in his movie. No matter. He’ll just film Kit when he’s not looking!
DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced picture, viewed in component video exhibits excellent quality with sharp and finely detailed images throughout. Occasional scenes are softly focused (for instance, when Daisy steps off the bus in search of her stardom). Colors are fully saturated and rich with natural fleshtones and deep blacks. Contrast and shadow delineation are exceptional with visual information in the darkest scenes. There are no distractions for a visual experience that is as delightful as the story. The anamorphic and letterbox aspect ratio measures 1.85:1.
Soundtrack:
The Dolby® Digital discrete 5.1 soundtrack is virtually identical to the DTS® Digital Surround™ 5.1 version, with the exception that the Dolby Digital audio sounds a bit more refined in the high-end. This could be due to Re-EQ processing. Otherwise, both versions are quite conventional in terms of spatial distribution. The soundfield is generally biased towards the screen with sound effects, and surround envelopment is subtle with ambience. The situation is different with the music, which is dynamic and fills the listening space nicely. The fidelity of the music, as well as the rest of the soundtrack, is remarkable as well. The dialgoue production is very good, with well-recorded, natural-sounding voices, and impressive spatial integration. The .1 LFE is sparingly utilized for this soundtrack, and deep bass utilization is limited but extension is decent. An exception to the limited low frequency and spatial exploitation is the freeway crossing scene in Chapter 12. This is a film soundtrack that is effective for the storytelling and has decent spatial dimension overall.
