Story Synopsis:
After another failed attempt to enjoy the holidays, Bridget Jones (Zellweger) decides to take control of her uncomfortably unmarried life, documenting everything in Bridget Jones’s Diary. Resolving to avoid becoming romantically attached to any workaholic, commitment phobic, or pervert, Bridget finds herself stuck between her boss, Daniel Cleaver (Grant)-the one man who embodies those scathing qualities-and his antithesis, the drab, yet sincere Mr. Right, Mark Darcy (Firth). The movie would not exist without the irresistible novel by Helen Fielding. (Suzanne Hodges)
DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 2.35:1 DVD picture should be quite pleasing, with images that are sharp and detailed with good contrast and shadow delineation. Colors are rich and well balanced, with accurate fleshtones, and deep blacks. The picture is quite solid, but exhibits distracting pixelization at times. (Suzanne Hodges)
Soundtrack:
Much of the Dolby Digital 5.1-channel soundtrack is focused toward the dialogue, but the experience from the multichannel music is amply enveloping and engaging. At times, the soundstage becomes energized and fully engulfing with the music. The dialogue is quite well recorded, albeit also sounding slightly forward, especially with the narrative. There’s also some satisfying low-end content with the music, along with noted .1 LFE activity. This soundtrack delivers a satisfying listening experience, through good fidelity and a soundfield that is tastefully expansive and enveloping. (Perry Sun)
