Notes

Story Synopsis:
In “Brotherhood Of The Wolf” (“Le Pacte Des Loups”), a huge beast is said to be responsible for the deaths that are occurring in 18th century France. The King calls upon Chevalier Gregoire de Fronsac (Le Bihan) and Canadian Indian Mani (Dacascos) to kill the wild animal. As they make their journey in search of the killer, Gregoire and Mani learn to face their own fears as they hunt the evil that roams the land and destroys those it comes in contact with. (Tricia Littrell)

DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 2.35:1 DVD exhibits a stylized picture, with colors that can have a desaturated appearance. Still, reds that adorn many costumes pop from the screen. Images are generally sharp, but can be filtered for a softer appearance that complements the period of the storytelling. Details can be nicely rendered, but sometimes the picture appears pixelized. There is occasional edge enhancement. (Suzanne Hodges)

Soundtrack:
The DVD features two Dolby® Digital 5.1-channel soundtracks: original French language and English-dubbed. The former is considerably more prominent in overall volume and sounds considerably more dynamic and punchier by comparison. Surround envelopment can be very aggressive at times, and low-end activity can be rather intense and even system-challenging, attributable in part to prominent usage of the .1 LFE channel. The soundstage tends to be fully engaged, with the complete sense of immersion. The English-dubbed dialogue is delivered at a quite comfortable listening level with fairly convincing spatial integration, while the original French dialogue sounds a little forward in nature. The music score sounds nicely recorded with a palpable “wraparound” spatial effect. (Perry Sun)
