Notes

Story Synopsis:
What’s a good way to put a damper on a weekend of hunting and relaxation at the beautiful English countryside mansion, “Gosford Park?” Murder. And to add insult to injury, it is the host, Sir William McCordle (Gambon), who is the one to meet his demise. But whodunit? The list of suspects is endless...including everyone’s fall guy, the butler (Bates).

DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 2.35:1 DVD offers a satisfying picture. Colors are quite warm, complementing the 1930s setting, ehanced with soft, low lighting effects to depict the period. Images are sharp and nicely detailed. A considerable amount of film grain inherent in the source element is quite noticeable, giving the picture a gritty texture. Pixelization and edge enhancement are noticed. (Suzanne Hodges)

Soundtrack:
The Dolby® Digital 5.1-channel audio presentation features a nicely sweeping, expansive presence with the music and certain atmospheric effects. The former has especially been well-recorded, making for a panoramic soundstage with welcome surround envelopment. Dialogue sounds slightly forward, yet seems abundantly natural with good intelligibility. The soundfield usually has a balance toward the screen, with emphasis on the dialogue. Recording quality overall is remarkable. (Perry Sun)
