Notes

Story Synopsis:
"Igby Goes Down" tells the story of a rebel with a cause. Desperate to break free from his pill-popping mother, his schizophrenic dad, and his fascist brother, cynical Igby Slocomb (Culkin) breaks out on his own. When his brother, Oliver (Phillippe) finally locates Igby to informs him that their mother is suffering from cancer, Igby continues to indifferently exist...no matter what goes down. (Suzanne Hodges)

DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 2.35:1 DVD picture opens with slightly pale, undersaturated hues that visually keep the past separated from the more fully saturated present during the film. Colors are well balanced with accurately rendered fleshtones, rich hues, and deep blacks. Images are sharp and nicely detailed, though some minor smearing is noticed. The picture is nicely contrasted, with satisfying shadow delineation. Edge enhancement can be offensive at times, and there is some minor pixelization. (Suzanne Hodges)

Soundtrack:
The Dolby® Digital 5.1-channel soundtrack features moderate spatiality, predominated by the music, and is centered around the dialogue, as might be expected. Voices sound impressively natural and nicely integrated with the visuals. The surrounds are typically subtle to moderate in nature. Soundstaging across the screen is quite panoramic and palpable. As might be anticipated, deep bass is characteristically reserved, though there is notable content associated with the music. (Perry Sun)
