Story Synopsis:
Based upon the novel “Waltz Into Darkness” by Cornell Woolrich, “Original Sin” tells a tale of love and betrayal. Luis Vargas (Banderas) only knows his bride-to-be through letters of love. And when he finally meets Julia (Jolie) on their wedding day, he is astounded and left breathless by her beauty and smoldering sexuality. But behind that beauty, a devious mind is at work. When Luis finds his business in ruin, his life in shambles, and his new wife on the run, he begins a relentless pursuit for the woman who not only stole his money, but also his heart. This unrated edition runs two minutes longer than the theatrical edition.
DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 2.35:1 DVD has pleasing image quality, with sharp and nicely detailed images. Colors are warm and well balanced, with accurate fleshtones and deep blacks. Contrast and shadow delineation are nicely rendered throughout. Edge enhancement can be bothersome, and pixelization is also noticed. The source element is revealing of occasional artifacts. (Suzanne Hodges)
Soundtrack:
The Dolby® Digital 5.1-channel audio presentation projects a nicely holosonic, immersive presence with background effects and the music. The soundstage usually is subtly engaged, yet is consistently effective in maintaining the sense of openness with various visual settings. Imaging across the screen is impressively wide with considerable depth into the surrounds. This soundtrack also should translate quite nicely to back surround decoding, using the SMART® Devices Circle Surround 3X as an example. The dialogue exhibits seemingly consistent spatial ambiance with the visuals, and has reasonably natural tonality. The recording of the soundtrack overall is quite remarkable, especially the music. Deep bass content, as would be anticipated, is reserved, yet providing for some welcome foundation to the music. (Perry Sun)
