Dan Mahowny was a rising star at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. At twenty-four he was assistant manager of a major branch in the heart of Toronto's financial district. To his colleagues he was a workaholic. To his customers, he was astute, decisive and helpful. To his friends, he was a quiet, but humorous man who enjoyed watching sports on television. To his girlfriend, he was shy but engaging. None of them knew the other side of Dan Mahowny--the side that executed the largest single-handed bank fraud in Canadian history, grossing over $10 million in eighteen months to feed his gambling obsession.

Story Synopsis:
Dan Mahowny (Hoffman) is a guy who lives a modest life, works in a bank, drives an old car, and dates a sweet bank teller (Driver). What no one realizes, however, is that he has a serious gambling problem and owes some serious money after losing some serious bets. After being promoted as the bank’s youngest assistant manager ever, Dan finds himself in the position of being able to approve loans and transfer funds. Suddenly he discovers that he has the ability to pay off his debts, but as he does so he finds himself in way over his head and his problems just beginning. "Owning Mahowny" is based on a true story and based on the book No Limit by Gary Ross. (Tricia Littrell)
DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 2.35:1-framed DVD picture often exhibits a greenish tinge in the color scheme, with flat hues and undefined blacks. While the picture is generally sharp, details appear smeared and the picture can have somewhat of a “hard” appearance. Contrast is well balanced, as is shadow delineation. Edge enhancement is a major offender with this title, haloing objects and separating them from their backgrounds. This mediocre picture may be better fit for smaller home theatre displays. (Suzanne Hodges)
Soundtrack:
The Dolby® Digital 5.1-channel audio, like many other film soundtracks, features a soundfield for which the music predominates. In fact, the music substantially permeates the listening space, particularly with respect to the surrounds. There’s a downright perception of holosonic™ immersion, though some may perceive the surrounds to be just slightly excessive in level. Dialogue sounds fairly natural in tonality and spatial integration, though certain lapses can noticed with the latter. The music features notable deep bass content. (Perry Sun)
