Young Shakespeare is forced to stage his latest comedy, "Romeo and Ethel, the Pirate's Daughter," before it's even written. When a lovely noblewoman auditions for a role, they fall into forbidden love -- and his play finds a new life (and title). As their relationship progresses, Shakespeare's comedy soon transforms into tragedy.

Story Synopsis:
Winner of seven Academy Awards®, Shakespeare In Love stars Best Actress®-winner Gwyneth Paltrow as the beautiful Lady Viola who assists William Shakespeare (Fiennes) with a bad case of writer’s block by having a lively affair with the good old Bard! But there’s trouble afoot for Viola and Will for she hides a secret or two that could spell trouble for the comically ill-fated couple.
DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 2.30:1 picture is a pristine transfer. Viewed in component video, the DVD delivers sharp and detailed images with a completely natural appearance throughout. Color fidelity is beautiful, with natural fleshtones and rich, breathtaking colors. There is no compression pixelization or artifacts.
Soundtrack:
The Dolby® Digital 5.1 discrete soundtrack is very well-produced, and projects an expansive soundfield, with superior channel separation. Dialogue is well-recorded, with natural sounding voices and generally good spatial integration. The distribution of sound effects within the listening space isn't aggressive, but rather is selective, and always effective in depicting a three-dimensional holosonic environment. Not much is expected in terms of deep bass, but the discrete has the slight advantage with being a little pronounced in the low-end, due to the presence of the .1 LFE channel. But the prime selling point for this soundtrack is the music score by Stephen Warbeck, which has excellent fidelity and dimensional spread (further-enhanced through the use of a back surround channel decoder). The music is just wonderfully melodic and engaging.
