Notes

Story Synopsis:
When six scientists are missing and feared dead, reporter Polly Perkins (Paltrow) is on the case. And after giant robots invade the city, Joe "Sky Captain" (Law) is called on to save the day. Polly pays a visit to Joe, who at first wants nothing to do with her, asking him to join forces. Their mission is to save the scientists "And" the planet before it's too late. Can it be done or will the evil Dr. Totenkopf (Olivier) destroy "The World Of Tomorrow" once and for all? (Tricia Littrell)

DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 1.78:1 DVD picture is incredibly stylized, with soft, hazy, and moody HD-originated imagery. Often nearly monochromatic, with shades of tobacco and grays that contribute a classic period that is complementary to the storytelling. The lighting and shading also give this picture a “dreamy” appearance. There is no bothersome edge enhancement to be seen, but very minor smearing and a touch of pixelization can be noticed at times. Still, this is a cool visual experience that looks great for those that have an appreciation for stylized imagery. (Suzanne Hodges)

Soundtrack:
Throughout the presentation, this Dolby® Digital 5.1-channel soundtrack shows an impressive use of each available channel, creating a completely holosonic™ environment filled with pans across each stereo wall, and phantom imaging around the entire room. The LFE channel is used prodigiously, really extending the low end expansion of the frequency range. Center surround imaging is prevalent throughout, and pans across each wall sound complete and realistic. Music is another aspect of this soundtrack that really shines though, audible through even the most intense of scenes. Sounds from the airplanes and robots are rendered nicely and are presented well in accordance to on screen positioning. (Danny Richelieu)
