The Sopranos
Meet Tony Soprano: your average, middle-aged businessman. Tony's got a dutiful wife. A not-so-dutiful son. A daughter named Meadow. An uncle who's losing his marbles. A hot-headed nephew. A not-too-secret mistress. And a shrink to tell all his secrets, except the one she already knows: Tony's a mob boss whose troubles are wrapped up in his two families. These days, it's getting tougher and tougher to make a killing in the killing business. Just because you're "made" doesn't mean you've got it made.
Tony Soprano navigates a reshuffled North Jersey hierarchy, mounting FBI attention, and rising tension at home -- testing his grip on both family and business.
While a labor standoff tests his business, Tony navigates shifting power as Junior's health and legal woes mount, Janice complicates Livia's care, and unease within the crew simmers.
With ex-con Richie Aprile back on the streets and Meadow throwing an unsupervised house party, Tony struggles to keep order at home and in the crew.
Tony, Paulie, and Christopher head to Naples to broker a deal, where Old World customs complicate New World plans; back in Jersey, the crew keeps business moving without them.
Back from Italy, Tony brings home a formidable new recruit; Christopher tests himself in an acting class, while Dr. Melfi wrestles with keeping her distance.
Tony runs a high-stakes card game while an old friend's gambling compulsion threatens business and family ties.
Christopher gets a taste of show business when a development exec courts his ambitions, while Tony balances crew pressures and home life as AJ's confirmation approaches.
Carmela seeks a college recommendation for Meadow; Richie tries to cement his status with a 'trophy' leather jacket for Tony, while two overeager associates look for a chance to prove themselves.
After a brush with death leaves a crew member hospitalized, Tony navigates rising tensions at home and among the crew as faith, fear, and superstition unsettle the family.
With the Feds closing in, Tony and Richie bust out a debtor's sporting-goods store as pressure at home and within the crew mounts.
With law enforcement closing in, Tony keeps up appearances at Barone Sanitation while Junior chafes under house arrest, each juggling family pressures and business ties without inviting more heat.
As Richie pushes for power, Tony's control is tested, Janice's romance complicates the family, and Junior weighs his loyalties.
Feverish from food poisoning, Tony is forced to face a truth he's been looking away from.

Story Synopsis:
The entire second season of the critically acclaimed and multi-award-winning HBO series, The Sopranos are brought to you here in all their widescreen splendor. Tony Soprano (Gandolfini) is your average joe; a middle-aged guy with an attentive family, friends, a mistress, a shrink to tell his troubles to, and a steady job...as a mob boss. (Laurie Sevano)
DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 1.78:1 DVD set delivers image quality that is fairly consistent among the episodes. Images are sharp and crisp, but at times with a "digital" edge. Edge enhancement contributes to the "hard" appearance. Overall depth and clarity are pleasing. Contrast and shadow delineation are nicely rendered, with good visual information in the darker scenes. Colors are rich and well balanced, with accurate fleshtones and deep blacks. Other than occasional edge enhancement and shimmering details, the image quality is solid. (Suzanne Hodges)
Soundtrack:
Similar to the first season release, the Dolby® Digital 5.1-channel discrete soundtrack for these episodes are dialogue-driven, with conservative dimensional spread, both across the screen and into the surrounds. The audio is generally of a quiescent nature. Voices tend to have the ADR-characteristic which can limit spatial consistency with the visuals. There is a subtle sense of spaciousness, imparted by the distribution of atmospheric effects throughout the listening space. Some of the music has been quite nicely presented, with a palpable sense of envelopment. (Perry Sun)
