Story Synopsis:
In The Way Of The Gun, two nickel-and-dime criminals decide that they can score big if they kidnap a girl (Lewis) who is a surrogate mother carrying the child of a wealthy couple. What they hadn’t reckoned on is that this wealthy couple’s lawyer has ties to some very powerful and influential people...the mob.
DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 1.78:1 DVD exhibits a picture that should surely please in all aspects of image quality. Colors are vivid and nicely balanced, with accurate fleshtones, rich hues and deep blacks. Images are sharp, with fine background details and good definition. Contrast and shadow delineation are excellent, with a nice gradation of visual information in the darker scenes. Though there are minor instances of edge enhancement and occasional pixelization, distractions are minimal. (Suzanne Hodges)
Soundtrack:
This sonic presentation in Dolby® Digital 5.1 features a wonderful music score, as well as fine fidelity and dimensional refinements that should result in a satisfying listening experience, often with intensity. Much of the soundtrack presentation is filled with adrenaline during the appropriate moments. Throughout the movie, the soundstage is consistently expansive, with sequences of dynamic and dimensional prominence, such as the incredible shootouts in Chapters 24 and 26. Speaking of the shootouts, the gunshots have an impressively visceral presence and provide for excellent dynamic contrast with moments of near-silence. Even during quiescent scenes, the soundfield has an enlivening, expansive presence that is also rather convincing in terms of spatial realism. Achievement to this effect is partially attributable to the judicious use of the split surrounds, and the perception of spaciousness should be further enhanced with extraction of phantom imaging in the surrounds, using a component such as the SMART® Devices CS-3X, Jr. The music is an excellent recording, and one the best instances is during the opening credits, as you can experience its depth and fidelity as it subtly fills the listening space. Also part of the music, as well as some effects, is the presence of deep, rumbling bass, with a clean, penetrating presence, along with some .1 LFE activity. You can really feel the lowest cycles accompanying the music score in Chapter 16, for example. Voices, including the narrative have a natural, pleasant-sounding presence, and spatial integration is noteworthy. This is a wonderfully produced and presented soundtrack presentation that is surely a winner in terms of its fidelity, as well as the dramatic and creative utilization of space. (Perry Sun)
