Die Große Stille
The Grande Chartreuse is the oldest Carthusian monastery situated in French Alps. The monks in this 900 years old monastery live a life of austerity and strict discipline. They eat in their private rooms and go on about their daily course of action without any disturbance or contact with anyone. They connect with each other only on Sunday afternoon when they have lunch together. This documentary shows the initiation of novices, the devotion of the monks and their daily routine. Also shown is the joys of their lives, their discussions, walks and lack of contact with the outer world. They do not deny the existence of the outer world, but they just deny all contacts with it so that it does not interfere with their devotion which is the sole aim of their lives.
