Produced in response to the kidnapping and murder of a prominent industrialist by a German terrorist group 30 years ago, this film will resonate with today's audiences who are all too familiar with political terrorism.
The film consists of a series of nonfiction and fiction segments bookended by two funerals - the industrialist's at the beginning and the terrorists' at the end. More of an essay than a straightforward documentary, the film captures impressions of this explosive and emotive moment in Germany's history by several directors of the New German cinema, including Alexander Kluge, Volker Schlondorff, Edgar Reitz, and Rainer Werner Fassbinder.
