The Conqueror

Twelve year old Pelle (Pelle Hvenegaard) travels with his widower father (Max von Sydow) to Denmark from their native Sweden because they need to find gainful employment. However, they have a lot of trouble finding jobs because Pelle is too young, while his father is over age 50 and thought to be too old. They also face prejudice because of where they have come from. Pelle is bullied at school as well, but his father does not help him and turns to alcohol for relief from stress. Pelle realizes that he will have to be the strong one so that they can survive.
