A történet az 1940-es és 1960-as évek Londonjában játszódik, ahol Alison Wilson (Ruth Wilson) boldog házasnak gondolja magát egészen addig, amíg férje halálát követően egy nő meg nem jelenik a bejárati ajtaja előtt.
