In a small Icelandic fishing port, a ferry docks. That same day a dismembered body is found in the river, sparking an investigation and a call to Reykjavik for detective reinforcements to assist the small local police force.

At the Police Station, Lithuanian Jonas Malakauskas has been arrested and spends the night in the cell. Meanwhile, someone is posting photos of the mutilated body on social media sites.

Hjörtur Stefánsson is a young man with a troubled past. Sentenced to jail for arson and manslaughter a few years back, he has a story to tell. A story Andri must listen to.

With the murderer still at large, unrest is beginning to grow among the still-trapped townspeople and tourists.
