Miss Marple blir ombedd att hjälpa Gwenda, en ung kvinna som har köpt ett hus på den engelska kusten men som har börjat se hemska syner. Tack vare miss Marples efterforskningar upptäcker Gwenda att hon inte alla har tillbringat hela sitt liv i Indien, utan hon hade bott i detta hus som barn. Synerna är i själva verket minnesbilder och hon inser att hon en gång blev vittne till mordet på en vacker kvinna.
