Verhaal

A catalogue of 1036 late Medieval pewter badges. They include numerous pilgrims' badges (the `Heilig' of the title) and also badges which depict all sorts of secular designs: everyday objects, animals, and erotica (the `Profaan'). Eighteen introductory chapters on particular iconographic topics are followed by the catalogue with photos of every badge - nearly all metal detector finds from flooded Dutch sites.
