Sigmund Freud (1856) Austrian neurologist and founder of psychoanalysis, he had a great impact on psychology, psychiatry, literary criticism, and other fields. His pioneering psychoanalytic method of free association allowed him to develop theories of the unconscious and of neuroses. Freud gave expression to such ideas that no one had dared to openly express before. His thoughts centred round his new approach to human science psychoanalysis and, an interpretation of dreams.
