Hucksters and hustlers abound at the Wentworth Plaza resort hotel where impresario con man Nicolai Nicoleff (Adolphe Menjou) woos Matilda Prentiss (Alice Brady), a rich widow, and tries to extract some investor money. Matilda is unlikely to part with her money, but indulges two grown and difficult children, including Ann Prentiss (Gloria Stuart). Ann requires a hired companion named Dick Curtis (Dick Powell) to help her enjoy life before marrying the insufferable T. Mosely Thorpe III (Hugh Herbert). The Prentiss son Humbolt (Frank McHugh) is a lightheaded playboy. A charity show, produced by Nicoleff, at the Wentworth is meant to support the Milk Fund, which provides a backdrop to the shenanigans and back street romances.
