Plot

Gideon Zadok, a gifted young author, succumbs to the lure of Hollywood and all but destroys himself. He moves his family to Israel to research a new book. On the eve of the '56 Sinai War, Gideon evacuates his wife and family, leaves his lover and joins the Israeli paratroopers as an observer. He is dropped at the key junction of Mitla Pass, in the desert deep behind enemy lines. Wounded, waiting for the relief column to arrive, Gideon wages a war no less violent within himself.
