Mike Hammer (1984)
Spillane's classic, tough-as-nails private eye, Mike Hammer (Stacy Keach), takes to the streets of modern day New York City.
It's not money that's driving the dedicated gumshoe, but a fiery passion for justice and the truth.
Hammer's unorthodox methods often put him on the wrong side of the law, particularly with his ambitious nemesis, assistant D.A. Lawrence Barrington (Kent Williams), who does it by the book and expects everyone around him to do the same.
From plush Park Avenue penthouses to a shoot out on the Staten Island Ferry to the seamy side streets of the world's most exciting city, Hammer stalks a dangerous array of underworld characters. Along the way, he's aided by a bevy of beauties, his faithful secretary Velda (Lindsay Bloom) and his best friend police captain Pat Chambers (Don Stroud). It's enough to keep him one step ahead of the D.A. and the NYPD.
An elderly couple goes to Mike and tells them that they placed all their money in gold. And the one handling their money won't give it to them. Mike initially tells them to go to a lawyer he knows. But when they're killed Mike decides to investigate and finds himself in the middle of something involving the Feds.
A friend of Hammer's is kidnapped and held for ransom during a jewelry store robbery. Things go wrong during the handover of a valuable diamond and Hammer has a lot of work to do before he finally works out what is happening.
A friend of Hammer's is killed by a car bomb and Hammer is determined to find the killer by using a list of names found in his office. Unfortunately, the people on the list are being killed off but Hammer still has to find the reason.
The secrets of a rich and powerful family are revealed when Hammer looks into the overdose death of a friend, a popular singer.
Hammer saves a woman in Central Park only to see her killed in front of him a short time later on her front door steps. When police aren't looking for the killer, Hammer realizes that the mystery is bigger than he thought.
A former detective suddenly shoots a man for no reason and forces Hammer to kill him. Hammer is determined to find out why, with the clues being a blonde and a marked dime. These clues lead him to a psychiatric clinic.
An old friend of Hammer's has her wallet stolen and he is mystified why she doesn't want to see the police. It turns that there are escorts, diplomats, blackmail and military intelligence all involved.
A friend of Hammer's, a fashion photographer is murdered after doing a fashion shoot. It takes Hammer and the police officer he is working with a long time to find a motive. There's betrayal and double-cross before the mystery is solved.
A fashion model is burnt to death in her apartment in what looks like a robbery gone wrong. When Hammer investigates he realises that there is much more to it. The trail leads to a surprising conclusion.
A fashion designer is killed in Hammer's office and it appears that Hammer was the target. However, Hammer's investigations show that there is much more to it, involving murder and international intrigue.
