Mike Terry (Chiwitel Eijiofor) is a martial arts expert struggling to make ends meet while maintaining his personal sense of honor. When he comes to the rescue of aging action star Chet Frank (Tim Allen) in a bar fight, Terry and his wife Sondra (Alice Braga) are drawn into a web of higher society and deep deceit revolving around an upcoming competitive fight featuring a member of Sondra's family and the possible involvement of Terry's teacher. An additional layer to the story involves Terry's top student Joe Ryan (Max Martini) and an incident with a nervous lawyer (Emily Mortimer).
