Von Ryan's Express

When Col. Joseph L. Ryan (Frank Sinatra) finds himself with several other U. S. soldiers in a WWII Italian POW camp mainly occupied by the British, he finds out that he is senior officer and thus in charge of the camp's prisoners. The senior British officer, Major Eric Fincham (Trevor Howard) has a hard time reconciling the difference between his command style and Ryan, but soon they have a much more complex problem as the Italian surrender now puts the POWs in the hands of the Germans. Now the POWs must take a captured train across Italy into Switzerland to escape, with the Nazi's hot on their trail.
